- Exhibits sufficient flexibility without the addition of modifiers.
- Plasticizers can be utilized where maximum flexibility is required.
- Solvency characteristics permit the use of reasonable amounts of hydrocarbon solvents.
Blends of alcohols and/or ketones with hydrocarbons are recommended. Such blends should be formulated from alcohols, ketones, and hydrocarbons having uniform evaporation rates in order not to disturb the solvent blend ratio during the drying of coating film. A percentage of a high boiling alcohol or ketone is therefore recommended to prevent phase separation during the drying process. In can coating applications requiring maximum flexibility, the use of plasticizing modifiers, such as vinyl or epoxy resins, is recommended. Can coating formulations containing 4-8% of vinyl resin modifier will generally meet the most extreme requirements.
